Selfridges will join the prestigious list of iconic global locations to be lit pink by Estée Lauder as a part of their Breast Cancer Awareness initiative, which currently includes the Sydney Opera House, The Empire State Building and Niagra Falls.

On the next day (30th September) everyone can meet Britain’s much loved actor, television writer, producer and presenter and all round comedian – James Corden and buyhis autobiography book, in which he reveals his disruptive teen years, his trials to make it in a boy band and the journey he went through to co-write Gavin and Stacey.

Wall to Wall for a safer protest!

A ring of steel will be thrown around Birmingham’s International Convention Centre to stop protesters getting near deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and his Liberal Democrat colleagues on 18th September. It is expected that many people will gather in the area wanting to protest against government spending cuts and economic policies.

Assistant chief constable Garry Forsyth, from West Midlands Police, said: “Whilst we recognise and support the democratic right for people to peacefully protest, we have to balance this with ensuring the safety and security of all those attending these events.

We at Wall to Wall Radio Communications Ltd. will be working closely with our partners within the security industry – the pioneers SPA Security & Events along with G4S and  to ensure all radio comms required  are delivered, installed and functioning up to a standard. The radio system on site will consist of repeater, aerial, over 150 two way radios (Motorola  GP340 and ICOM IC-F4002) and many acoustic, D-type and lightweight ear pieces.

We respect people’s right to freely and peacefully express their opinions (positive or negative) but our experience shows that large groups may let their emotions take over, leading to order disruptions in the area, which is absolutely unneccesary and avoidable if there is reliable communication in place and everything is well planned and coordinated. This is why Wall to Wall is also providing a number of radios for the local police (part of the same radio comms system) to interconnect security teams and local authorities in order to avoid all kinds of incidents or emergencies.

According to Ofcom (Office of Communications, the UK regulator), the supply of available Private Mobile Radio (PMR) channels is almost exhausted in some areas. Undoubtedly, the radio comms industry needs more capacity for its current and future requirements and the way forward is adopting the spectrum-efficient digital modes. Digital standard is here to stay.
Digital two way radios are available in both licenced and licence-free forms. They digitise speech like mobile phones and transmit it over radio waves, whereas analogue equipment uses audible speech. Being capable of voice, data and a range of other features and applications in conventional and trunking mode, digital radios have received global recognitions.

The current protocols used to send digital signal are two – Time-Division Multiple-Access (TDMA) and Frequency-Division Multiple-Access (FDMA).

Main benefits of digital radios over analogue ones:

- better clarity of voice – through the use of coders and other techniques, digital processing is more consistent screening out noise and re-constructing signals from degraded transmissions
- doubled capacity in existing licenced channels

• TDMA retains the 12.5kHz channel width and divides it into two alternating 30msec timeslots where each timeslot acts as a separate communication path or channel
• FDMA narrowband technology slices the signal in length and uses 2 x 6.25kHz channels which allows twice the amount of users on the radio spectrum as well (e.g. two simultaneous independent calls on one channel.
  Both standards can be also used for reverse-channel signalling for improved control of the system operator.

- reduced equipment and licencing cost – doubled capacity also means that less system equipment is needed in order to gain the same coverage for the same number of radio users
- wider coverage and better performance at the edge of coverage area – no scratchy noises until the signal is completely gone beyond the communication footprint
- longer battery life and greater power efficiency – this is achieved as the radio transmits only half of the time – every other 30 msec (TDMA) and for FDMA the reduced noise components (with the narrower channel bandwidth) improve receiver sensitivity, which makes the radio transmit at a reduced power as well
- backwards spectrum compatibility with legacy analogue systems – all digital equipment works in mixed mode (analogue and digital), therefore old analogue radios can still be used
- easier integration with IP-based data applications, text messaging, telemetry or external tools like GPS and telephone interconnect – it is possible to separate voice and data streams into different communication paths in order to improve quality of service and utilize a computer to control the whole system via sophisticated software
- (last but not least) secure connection – digital signal encryption is much easier to implement and more secure (as opposed to “scrambling” with analogue)

Our partnership with John Lewis stores and Maintenance Management Ltd (MML) began in 2006. Since then we have provided comms systems and maintenance support to various sites across the UK including: Newcastle, Kingston, Edinburgh and London’s Oxford street. We are currently rolling out services to all stores across the country including numerous Waitrose and Peter Jones sites. All of which are managed by MML.

As a result of the level of our service, we have been recently approached by John Lewis Kingston to design and install (starting the week of 27^th June) an extension to their existing radio comms system. This is to connect two part of the building (divided by a dual carriageway) in order to gain a complete coverage throughout the whole site.

At first instance we would upgrade an existing repeater to a new analogue/digital one.

We would also change the type of antenna as the current one is of a wrong type and therefore does not perform as required.

We would then install a network of receive antennas in various service duct around both buildings. This would consist of an amount of Omni directional Collinear 3dB antennas. This will give a complete signal both in the shop and Car Park for the Emergency and Car Park channel.

Wall to Wall Communications Ltd. to supply for the Bournemouth Air Show

The Bournemouth Air Festival takes place over four days in August (18th – 21st August, 2011). The four day spectacular is set against the backdrop of Bournemouth’s seven miles of award-winning beaches, beautiful bay and glorious gardens.
The world famous “Red Arrows” will be displaying Friday, Saturday and Sunday and also confirmed will be two fantastic evening dusk displays, taking place Thursday 18th and Friday 19th August. With plans still underway for more display teams and planes.
This event is FREE to attend and Wall to Wall Communications has worked closely with Bournemouth Tourism to design a bespoke Radio Communications System that will allow all Management and Security to communicate and to control the 1.5million visitors to the Air Show.

There will be over 200 radio USERS between Bournemouth Management and the dedicated security company, SPA Security. Wall to Wall will install a multi channel VHF system which will also link up to local coast guard for continued health and safety.
Throughout the Air show, Wall to Wall Comms will have on-site Radio System Engineers to ensure all equipment works between all parties to provide seamless and efficient communications for a successful event.

VINCI BAM Nuttall Joint Venture comes to Wall to Wall Comms to source digital radio system for tunnelling project at Tottenham Court Road station and Crossrail works.

The VINCI BAM Nuttall Joint Venture, currently working on the Tottenham Court Road station redevelopment and expansion, have sourced the supply and installation of radio communications system equipment from Wall to Wall Communications Ltd.

Wall to Wall communications Ltd are providing a Digital Motorola Mototrbo system with multiple channels and a SIP telephone interconnect. A complex antenna system will allow seamless communication between workers at ground level and their team within the tunnel.

The hand portable radio package is comprised of Digital Motorola DP3400’s and DP3600’s all powered by Lithium Ion batteries for enhanced efficiency. These radios are dust, shock and water proof, which ensures a consistent and reliable performance in extreme conditions. They have the ability to make one-to-one calls, group and all-calls as well as text messaging and external phone calls. Wall to Wall Communications Ltd has allocated an emergency button on each handset which can call a predefined receiver at any time.

These communications measures are essential to ensure stringent health and safety conditions on site.

Final preparations are under way for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding at Westminster Abbey on Friday.

A final private rehearsal was held for the couple at the venue last night, along with Prince Harry and the Middleton family. They were met by senior members of the clergy to run through what will happen during the ceremony. Prince William will spend this evening with his father Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and best man Harry at Clarence House, their official London home. Miss Middleton will be with her family at the exclusive Goring hotel in Belgravia, where the Middletons arrived yesterday. 

Meanwhile, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh will catch up with British and foreign royals at a private dinner at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Hyde Park, central London.

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Hyde Park and the Institute of Contemporary Arts London have chosen Wall to Wall to be their radio comms supplier for the Royal Wedding Day. They will hire radios from us and we will make sure their security and event teams’ communications throughout the day go smoothly. Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park

A royal wedding deserves a royal location from which to celebrate. A London landmark and a ‘royal’ hotel, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has long been the setting for royal visits and official engagements. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the late Princess Margaret first learned to dance in the gilded ballroom, Prince Charles and Princess Anne visited the tearooms as children and more recently, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were guests at Margaret Thatcher’s 80th Birthday party. Now William and his family will also stay there on the wedding eve just a few blocks away from the bride’s hotel.
